Compaq cq58 keyboard problems

HP Recommended
I am really struggling with my laptop. More often than not random keys will stop working on it. Sometimes the keys are the ones I require to log in. This then prevents me from getting into my laptop at all. Other times I can be in the middle of typing and they will stop working. It is set on the correct keyboard layout so that is not the issue. The most common keys that stop working are QWERT 123789POI but it is not limited to just those. It is driving me crazy. Aim currently using windows 8.1 and to this date have not been able to log in for 7 weeks. I need this laptop for my university essays and research it was fine for the first 11/12 months but now it is getting ridiculous please help me I cannot afford a new one and it is less than 2 years old!

1. Check for any durt and clean the keyboard.

2. Check for hardware failures:

If you find failure, then its a hardware issue.

Wish you luck,
Karthik

Hi

Try the following.

Hard reset:
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Disconnect all the external peripheral devices connected. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.

Power on.

Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu and then select F10 to enter the bios menu.
Press F5 to load the defaults (this is sometimes F9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key), use the arrow keys (assuming they work in this menu) to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Press F10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Let the system boot into Windows. Check the keyboard.

Thanks,
