I'm also having the exact same problem with my dv4-1220us. I installed the Windows 7 Beta and everything works perfectly except for the external speakers. The HDMI out audio and headphone out audio were installed correctly, but not the built-in speakers.
Does anyone have any clue how to fix this?

I did the same, Win 7 and Audio didn't work.
Luckily I saved the Driver folder located in my Vista installation. I forgot where the folder was IIRC it was in the drive right when you open it.
There's an audio installer and after that it works perfectly.
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
That's all the info I have, the install file is like 70MB, I think it contains both 64bit and 32 bit drivers, as I had X64 now I'm on x86.
If you really need it, I can send it to you over skype or BitTorrent, email me at Kingcodez + gmail . com

I have gotten XP to work on this specific model. The only problem that I'm having is the audio.
The audio works for me only until I restart the computer.
Once I restart the computer, I have to disable the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver and enable it again.
This takes all of about 1 minute and my audio works again after that.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get audio without having to restart the driver.
I am running on SP3 dotNetFramework 3.5.
The IDT HD Audio Codec Driver 6.10.6087.0 B did not work for me as I just tried it.
Basically, I tried almost every single driver out there and none work so as far as I know, the only downside to XP is restarting the UAA Bus Driver to get audio.

I had the same issue, but got it partly solved. My audio is working again, at least what concerns the use of headphones. The internal loudspeakers still do not work.
I took the following steps:
1. Update BIOS
2. Install all Windows 7 updates recommended, even the minor ones
3. Install the most recent audio drivers from HP
... and rebooted after each step
This at least got the audio system working again, though not the internal speakers. In case you get your speakers working as well, I would appreciate a hint.
