Did my hard disk definitely fail?

hp pavilion g7-131ous
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I am not sure if my hard disk is failing.

It failed the Hard Disk Short test DST.

I can still use it in safe mode where it is very fast.

In normal mode I can basically not do anything anymore....very slow or just hangs or freezes.....I noticed shutdown and startup was taking longer and longer....really dont know if it is definitely my hard disk.

Any advice will really be appreciated.

Also I do not know if i have a 32 or 64 bit. how/where do i check to make sure?

Failing the Short DST test is pretty definitive of a hard drive failure. In Safe Mode you are not stressing the hdd as much because you are running with a bare minimum of drivers/software.

Most HP machines have 64 bit Windows. To check yours head to Control Panel and in right corner change "View by" from Category to large or small icons. Next click on "System" icon.

Yes that hdd should work fine. Your Maintenance & Service Guide will help in replacing the hdd. They are pretty easy-I have replaced a few.
