Well it found the Intel Centrino drivers for me (4/30/2015). Windows 10  itself will load most of the needed drivers.

As I stated in my large post, windows 10 on the 8460p works almost 100% out of the box. Only a few esoteric things are left non functional, namely:

1. 3d Driveguard (not needed for SSD)

2. 3G data (and GPS). Never used it.

3. Fingerprint scanner. Used it to log on all the time (and now in windows 10 too)

I have fixed the scanner but not the other two (yet). It would only be an exercise though. I dont use them.

I used the Lenovo driver originally pointed to by this article: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Validity-Fingerprint-Common-Dri...

But now it seem tohave been removed.  However if you go back in my posts you will see how to use the site http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ and example I showed was for that device. Just search for vid_138 and choose the 0017 variant (or the 003c variant if thats now available).  Download the package, open the cab file (which should but just like a zip on windows 10. Put the files in a directory somewhere and point the update driver location to them. The rest should be fine.

One caveat: if this is an upgrade you night have to get rid of the old drivers first and this might include removing all traces of that id from the registry.

I see you have "hide file extensions for know file types" checked. You'll want to uncheck that piece of irritation!

1. Press windows key-R and type "device manager" to get the old control panel device manager up. Open your missing device. It will be listed with a "?".

2 Make sure that its the right one by checking the hardware ID pulldown under details.

3. Go to driver tab and update driver. Then browse my computer for drivers. Go to you new directory and select it.

4. With any luck it will automatically select the right driver - or you may be asked to pick one.

I will add that I did not use that driver but the Lenovo one - which I have if needed. The MS one should be correct though.

Thats it.
