HP Pavilion G7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion G7, and it's been having fan issues for a few months now. It'll start making a grinding noise, and sometimes go away. Lately, though, it hasn't disappeared. I've removed the keyboard and tried sucking out the dust, ran some system tests, re-installed drivers....nothing works! Also, it is definitely the fan, not the hard drive. Please help, without this computer, I can't do my schoolwork, nor keep recording games.

Hey @PyreticFyre ,

I would check the seating of the fan, just to make sure something is not rubbing. I would also perform HP Diagnostic test as it can aid in diagnosing a failed piece of hardware in the Notebook.

Thanks.

Hi @PyreticFyre ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g7 Notebook and fan issues. You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the fans default settings.

Please let me know how this goes.

Thanks.

Reset the BIOS, does not seem to have done anything. I've limited the voltage flow into the CPU so the fan isn't much needed for now, but I'm starting to think it may be a physical issue, like it may be rubbing up against something in the area? Also, after rebooting my computer before resetting the BIOS, I had to pull off the keyboard and physically turn the fan to get it to start...first time that's happened.

Ok, Diagnostics test said everything looked good. Spent an hour pulling it apart, and think I may have found the issue. There's a buildup of dust in the output port of the fan, along with what looks like a paper clip. Can't tell too much at the angle, will update once I have the fan open.

Yes! It wasn't actually a paper clip, but a parts labelling tag. Design flaw...Can HP fix that? Either way, the fan is now silent, and hopefully the system will be cooled better too. Thanks so much for your help!
