G72 259wm CPU Upgrade

G72 259wm
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Laptop model is G72 259wm

It has following CPU

Pentium Dual Core processor T4500.

The Socket Type is: P(478)

The Service Guide Lists following Processor as Spare Parts. But there are several confusions. First how can I confirm the "model" such as "Model 1.0" or Model 1.1"?

When I researched on "Intel Core i5-540M Processor", it says the Socket Type is BGA1288, PGA988, G1. It does not say "P" as socket type. Will it be possible to replace my existing T4500 Cpu with this i5-540M? What other options do I have?

G72 259wm CPU Upgrade

Hi,

G72-259WM only supports socket P processors

If the motherboard has chipset Intel GL40 more powerful processor is already installed.

G72 259wm CPU Upgrade

Thank you Terminator.

So what other options do I have? I do mostly office work and need to open multiple applicatons such as MS Office and mutliple Internet Browsers. It gets slow.

Can I upgrade memory from current 4 GB to 8 GB on this laptop? will that help?

It seems the CPU whitelist in the Service guide is misleading because the Sockets are not same.

Is there any way to upgrade CPU to faster CPU - Quad core or Dual core with hyperthreading?

Following are he CPU-Z screenshots

sorry for the delay :smileyembarrassed:

The GL40 chipset supports up to 4 GB maximum and the more powerful processor is that you already have.
