I've had my H8-1022 PC (Windows 7 64 bit) for a few months now but this past week I've started seeing a problem where the wireless connection does not recover after PC wakes up from sleep. There were a few Windows and HP updates installed last week and perhaps a new update is causing this issue.
I tried to update the driver but windows says it's up to date. Also looked at the HP website for the driver for the h8-1022 wireless atheros and it shows the same version that I have.

Here are the hardware Ids.
The only way to recover is to run the troubleshoot and this causes a reset of the device. But it's annoying having to do this every single time. I checked to confirm and the device power is not shut on sleep so don't know what is causing this device to start acting up.

You don't have the latest driver installed. Try this one and see if that fixes the issue.

It now takes up to 2 minutes after waking up for the wireless connection to recover. For months I was used to the wireless connection recovering within 5 seconds of waking up.
What happens with this new driver is that the icon shows it is attempting to establish the connection, but it takes much longer for wireless connectivity to be finally established.

I've tested over the past 2 days. Here is what I found.
The wireless signal strength with the new driver appears to have improved, and the repeated speedtest.net results show improvement. But the wireless connection recovery after wakeup from sleep is longer.
I'd prefer to have a version of the driver with the best of both ... but I guess I'll have to stick to this version of the driver until then because I like the improved performance once the wireless connection is established.

Is it possible that your antivirus program is slowing down the works when the PC wakes?
Programs like Norton or McAfee really slow down the performance of PC's in general.
I use the free Microsoft Security Essentials A/V, and my devices all wake up fast (5 seconds or less).

I changed the device manager settings, for the Athreso 802.11 a/b/g/n "Power Management" settings to selected the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". After waking up from sleep the driver probably turns ON the power for the device and the wireless connection recovers within 5 seconds.
So with this driver, and setting I have better wireless performance and connection recovers right away after sleep.
