I'm having the EXACT same problem.  everything else works fine on the port replication side, but the docking station just won't charge my elitebook 8540w battery.  If you've found a solution to this please let me know what it is.

Same for me !! Just bought a  HP 230W Advanced Docking Station NZ223AA plugged in and set up only to find a couple of hours later my HP EliteBook 8740w shut down with no battery life remaining.

Is there any support for  this issue, its not as if these docking solutions are cheap !!

Me too sort of. We bought 3 NZ223UT 230w Advanced Docking Stations. They all started out working but now one model has stopped charging after one full day of use. Tried swapping between power supplies and laptops as well as the docking stations and it all came back to the docking stations itself. Everything works on the Docking station it just wont charge.

Using the new HP ProBook 6560b laptops with the docking stations.

Just saw this 'solution' somewhere and thought i'd add it here:

1) Power down laptop with power attached.

2) Remove battery.

3) Power up laptop with power attached.

4) Power down laptop with power attached.

5) Insert battery.

6) Power up with power attached to dock.

7) Joy.

I didn't think this would work at all (carried on looking about for ages), but in desperation i tried it and it actually worked. Madness i know.
