I think my drive 1 is the problem. On doing a diagnostic it fails. But drive 2 is ok.
I was not getting any warning about the drive on start up.
My laptop started going really slow taking minutes to open anything including browsing. Google would say not responding and then it would be ok for 10 minutes or so. Initially I thought I had a virus but my AVG and Malwarebytes were not picking up anything.
On boooting it gives me a blue screen with the drive error ???000000f. Can't remember the first 3 letters.
Now it will hardly do anything. I have tried to do drive repair which went on for about 24hrs. It won't do a system restore or any other diagnostic.
After hours trying to get it to boot up it had got to where my screensaver and this message had popped up
LogonUI.exe - System error
Exception processing message 0xc0000006 parameters 0xffdb01d28 it repeats this number 4 times.
I pressed ok and my screen has gone black but the cursor is there.
Is my drive knackered?

Hello @Fut1a,
I believe that the drive 1 was Primary Hard drive on the unit and had Operating system on it.
And unfortunately its Failed.
Now Whenever the Hard Disk Short/Long DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. Thanks for the response.
Both drives are 1000GB, and as usual it's no longer under warranty.
With your response saying to replace the drive with the same or higher drive.
Would I be able to replace the drive with an SSD one?

Hello @Fut1a,
Yes !! You can add a second HDD or a SSD to the second slot/bay on your machine. You need a caddy cable to go with it.
Like this : Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes hard drive bracket, primary hard drive connector cable, secondary hard drive connector cable, and screws) Part Number - 681976-001

Crucial MX300 1TB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD
The thing that's making me nervous on pulling the trigger is if I install it and it doesn't work. Is there anyway I can be sure that it's the hard drive that's the problem? I am nervous on spending £280 and finding that it doesn't fix the problem.
Also this is confusing me. Can I put this in drive 1 to replace the broken one and leave the other HDD where it is in drive 2? It's just that you mention putting it in the second slot. Or did you mean putting the HDD from drive 2 into drive 1, and then putting the new SSD in drive 2?

I am quite sure it's my hard drive at fault now but I am still unsure if I can replace the broken drive 1 with a new SSD one or it should go into drive 2 and the HDD drive rom drive 2 should go into drive 1?
