HP EliteBook 840 G2 bios password reset

HP EliteBook 840 G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Good afternoon. I had a problem. My nephew set an administrator password to enter the BIOS and can not remember it.
I do probyval restore BIOS from a USB device, but nothing has changed. I took off the cover and disconnect the battery with the BIOS on the day, and also did not get the result.
The forum is a response to a password reset the BIOS on the HP Elitebook and Probook, but unfortunately my model is not listed there, and I was not able to do what I need.
Tell me how can this be done?

HP EliteBook 840 G2 bios password reset

Hello frantstehnik,

Welcome to FORUM !!

There is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks.

HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.

  1. Please have a look at this link.

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility

  1. Replace the BIOS chip

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-...

  1. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

1.Save smc.bin you`ve got  from HP support  to the root of a USB thumb drive “(or save the file to the root of drive 😧 HP_TOOLS)” -- I used a USB drive, btw...

  1. Power the laptop off
  2. Hold down Windows key + up arrow + down arrow and power the laptop on
  3. Let go of the keys at the HP splashscreen
  4. Press F10 repeatedly at the screen that shows up with "SMC command handled successfully"
  5. This should bring you into the BIOS where you need to choose “Reset BIOS security to factory default” and confirm by choosing yes
  6. Exit the BIOS, saving changes
  7. When the laptop reboots, you will see the coveted prompt to clear the TPM, which is shown below.
  8. Press F1
  9. When the laptop reboots, the BIOS password is gone

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!

I did not understand it the action to perform if I need to change the BIOS chip? Or replacement BIOS is a single solution to the problem?

HP EliteBook 840 G2 bios password reset

I worked for an asset management company and  they were getting many laptops from global companies

that are bios locked. I was tasked to contact HP and obtain smc file to unlick bios before they can wipe and sell those laptops. HP says that they have stopped  supporting their product in this matter regardless of  warranty coverage! HP further states that if your laptop is bios locked you must replace the system board at your own expense.

Dell has a policy that you  provide ownership of the equipment and they will unlock bios even beyond warranty.

Take the risk and Its an individual decision to purchase HP products even though they won't provide support for their products even during warranty period.

Here I would like to give some details for the resting the bios password, but you should have some hardware knowledge about the laptop. I have reset the password of my customers laptop (model - HP Elitebook 820 G1) . When I was gone through the internet for getting the solution, I got three options for doing this process.

1. You have to reveive the smc.bin from HP support team and do the process according the support team.

2. You have to buy new bios chip from online stores and replace the bios chip.

3. You have to erase the bios rom file and write the new bios rom file into it.

I have done the 3rd step and I have successfully completed it. In order to do it you needed the bios programmer kit and the bios rom file (you can download it from internet without any charges)
