HP Pavilion 6000 wont boot up. Help!

HP Recommended

My laptop recently began having "difficulty" booting up.  Lights would come on, fan would run but screen remained black.  two clicking noises would be hearthen it would shut down and try again, and again and again.

Once in a while it would actually boot up like nothing ever happened.

Now it seems stuck in the light, fan click shut down repeat cycle.  I am not very saavy and didtry recovery discs that were sent when my son's compaq died.  no good.

Now what???

Any suggestions apreciated.

Sounds like you may have a bad hdd. It can be replaced fairly easily but you will need Recovery Disks for your model to reinstall Windows. Recovery Disks from another model won't work.

Please post full model number or P/N from the Service Tag on bottom of laptop for more detailed help.

Bad news and good news.Your model (DV6208NR) is one of those with bad Nvidia graphics chips which results in total failure.Good news is,it is also covered under the Nvidia settlement. You can check your model here as I did, and register as part of the settlement group to have it replaced with a new laptop. After clicking 'Check Model', choose HP(of course), on the next screen choose 'HP dv62xx/dv63xx'.On next choose "screen is not working' and last choose your PN which you posted above RP162UA.

Most likely would not even work to replace the hdd and use Recovery Disks, but you can order Recovery Media from your drivers page.If the link there doesn't work, use the 'Contact HP' link at bottom of that page for help:
