Has anyone here been experiencing sparkling/graining screens on the tx2z?
My understanding is that starting around January, HP has been building the tx2z with an anti-glare screen that has been somewhat poor quality that shows the effects described in these forums: TouchSmart Community Tablet PC Review. It seems that people who ordered their tx2z prior to Janauary received at glossy screen, while experiencing glare, had a crystal clear picture. For anyone with a new screen, what are you doing about it?and does HP know about this quaily issue?

This morning I took my machine to a Best Buy to have a tech look at it. The guy I talked to said that it was probably the capacitive screen overlay causing the speckliness, and that was how it was supposed to be.
Can you give me a description of symptoms that you are seeing? It seems strange to me that you had to tell the HP Tech is was the digitizer and that describing the symptoms directly wouldn't lead them to know that digitizer was the problem.

I have the same problem with a tx2z-1020us purchased from Amazon.com. I called them up and they are sending a replacement unit on Friday. I'm not sure if they really understood what the issue is though.
The display units I've seen at Best Buy and Office Depot both had MUCH better looking screens. The screen my unit has is grainy and speckled. It's hard to even look a this website because of the white background. When you move your head from side to side you can see the "speckles" more pronounced.

I just returned my HP tx2z tablet PC after using it for 1 day. I was pretty excited about getting the laptop and using all the features of this tablet PC with one of the best configurations available today. However, to my disappointment, HP changed the screen from "glossy" to "matte" finish (as they say) since the beginning of 2009. This "matte" finish screen strains your eyes and is absolutely pathetic. There is a sparkling, shimmering, speckly and grainy picture - especially in the white background. You can clearly see red, green and blue lights emerging from pixels and it is every eye straining! I checked Best Buy and Frys to compare my screen with others - but they had the older versions on display which had the glossy and shinny screen.
I even mentioned to the tech support, customer service representative and returns specialist that "if I was a part of a team who made the decision to switch the screen quality, I would have rejected this new screen quality after glancing at it for first 2 seconds". The decision-maker must have to be blind in order to approve this screen quality!
There are numerous forums (like TouchSmartCommunity and TabletPCReview) where you can just type in TX2Z matte screen and see the review of hundreds of individuals who returned this tablet only because HP changed the screen quality!
These days HP knows about the issue - so the Total Care, Customer Service Representative and the Returns Specialist did admit about HP changing the screen quality from "glossy" to "matte" starting 2009 due to fingerprints issues on the previous screen.
Bottom Line: buy this tablet if you're only looking at the price and features, but NOT the quality. I would certainly buy this ONLY if HP changes the screen quality.

All I can say is "ditto" to your post about returning this pc because of the grainy speckles is all that's wrong but it IS a excellent smooth low to no noise except for once in a while heat tolerable especially i vbeleive due to slightly higher angle of 8cell -- therefor i am still using it on my bed at night like now and there is warmth notburing heat whatsoever with many many firfiox windows open now 🙂
Do I really have to return this GEM OF A PC because of the display or keep it at the good deal I received OR wait for the July and August Windows7 release and not save 500 dollars....? Matte is good but overly-speckled matte is not. Still this is a comfortable screen with minimal glossy relect (0% reflection now at 1:30amEST with no light or light :)!) This "Brightview" is indeed very bright with about 35-38 levels of volume. Rich colors and ATI Catalyst Control Panel says check here for richer colors etc and i is nice.
I would really like keep it 'cause it has Vista Ultimate (***is that uselss since everyone is upgrading tx2z's to windows7 already?!) and a great webcam and a necessary 8-cell battery and excellent speakers and very fast and responsive. Good job AMD ultra. I have tons of windows open although somethings up with IE7 32-bit so i avoid and use 64-bit or Firefox or safari or all at once with lts of windows and tabs open.
It's so convenient and interactive in mutliple ways Especially because The No-pressure/ just tap and easy-to-write on versus the older tablets that relied on definite pressure especiially that 2710p whew that takes effort to input except for its keyboard! as you like screen is amazingly efficient for working windows and it senses your touch rather than your pen and brings up the appropriately sized on-the-screen keyboard rightaway
yes there are sacrifices to be made to have so much in a multiple-input fast enerteinment pc and laptop and touchsmart
i do not think i can part with it ...brightness at max level at night is sweet. Movies are like movie-screen quaility/feel with rich matte-like quality . I can type right up at the full brighness screen and it doesnt hurt my eyes at night.
Smoothsailing with no fans all day and night and this is with a cd in it all day just to see if it made the often-loud notebook cd sound but this one has the loudest loading disk sound i've ever heard. Another minor thang...
Major cursor thing remains with tiny pen point jumping during cd playback -- any fix yet??
over and out
-tom ***any help in making whitescreen whiter would be apprciated
