Hello everybody,
I have a dv6t-7000 Quad Edition (Windows 7 64-bit) that I've had for a while and I was wondering why my subwoofer is not working at all. There's nothing coming out of the subwoofer at all. I've tested it with different types of music and tried plenty of bass test on youtube with no luck.
On the IDT drivers, I've turned the bass all the way up (4), and even tried cranking up the bass to 100 on the beats control panel. The beats audio are on and I've even tried turning the lowest frequency up to see if it would change anything at all, but no luck. There's NOTHING coming out of the subwoofer. I've uninstalled IDT drivers and reinstalled the latest one more than a few times (even tried older ones), and even tried deleting the IDT folder to see if it would change anything but nothing. When I plug in headphones, I can hear the bass just fine, but when I'm just using my laptop with nothing plugged in, there's just no bass.
If there's any solution, I would appreciate help.
Thank you,
Steven To

Hi,
It's possible this is a hardware issue, but try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
If you still get no output from the subwoofer, try reinstalling the IDT Audio driver again, now that the bios has been reset.

Hello DavidPK,
Thank you for the fast response. I've tried all of the following but none of it worked. When I open the IDT audio drivers, it seems like the subwoofer is present, but it is still not responsive. Does this mean it is the hardware problem? I've turned in my laptop for warranty and already presented this problem along with another, but all they did was change the keyboard. And all of that took more than four weeks to complete. Since I'm at school right now, I would have to wait until the next break to try again and hope for HP to not make the same mistake. Is there anything else I could try before doing this?
Thank you,
Steven To

Hello StevenTo. I understand you're still having some problems with your subwoofer.
How long has the subwoofer not been functional?
This is likely a hardware issue. You have attempted a large majority of the resolutions which would resolve software issues. The next step I would suggest would be to take the notebook back to a known working state by either performing a Microsoft System Restore or an HP System Recovery.
The problem has likely been going on too long to utilize a Microsoft System Restore. So, that leaves performing an HP System Recovery. The recovery restores the notebook back to the factory condition. So, you will lose ALL data which is not backed up prior to performing the recovery. This document can walk you through the process.
Since the recovery restores the OS to a known working condition if you problem persists then it is a hardware issue and will require a repair.
If you have any further questions just let me know. I hope you have a great night. Cheers!

Hi,
I'm certainly leaning towards this being a hardware issue, however the degree of disassembly required to get at the sub-woofer would void your warranty.
Can you let me know the bios version of your notebook.

The only time I remember the subwoofer working is when I first received the laptop. It worked for about maybe a few weeks and after that it stopped functioning. I did not do any windows updates until after this issue, as I tried to resolve the solution myself.
Thank you,

Hi,
In that case, it's worth trying the following.
Download the following IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56155.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.
Next, unplug any connected devices, then download and apply the latest Bios version for your notebook on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp60001-60500/sp60050.exe
Once the flash has started, do not interrupt it in any way - If you have the HP_TOOLS partition, the flash will take place in the UEFI environment at reboot. In some cases, the notebook may restart more than once, but it's important not to interact with the machine until it's booted back into Windows.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if there's any life in the subwoofer now.

Hello good afternoon. I have a hp pavilion dv7 1250ep(windows 7 x64) and the subwoofer don"t work. I have the drivers that HP recommend for my system.
I have some way to verify that it is detected by the computer or not?
Regards
Rodrigo
