HP pavilion g7 battery not charging (windows 10)

I have a HP Pavilion g7 running windows 10.  I have been having trouble with my battery, it was telling me that it was plugged in and charging but would not charge up all the way.  Now a couple of days it told me that there was no battery when there was and at other times it says 0% available (plugged in, charging) but it does not charge.  Yesterday when I did the diagnostics it told me that there was a problem with the battery and needed to reboot but when it turned off it would not turn on until I removed the battery.  Is this a defective battery or a problem with the battery or the charger?  Is there any recall on this?  How do I find out the answeres and find out if I need to get a new battery or charger?  I never had a notebook battery go bad on me in all the HP notebooks/laptops I have had over the years.  I hope someone can help with this problem and give me the correct answers.  Thank you.

You might want to take a look at this document: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.

It suggests troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is the battery, the power supply, or the system board.

You might find the answer to your battery/power issue as you work through the steps in that HP support article.
