Hard Drive SMART Check: Failed

Hi,

The 24 character error code does confirm a Smart failure and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Regards,

DP-K

Hard Drive SMART Check: Failed

Thank you for the quick response.

Yes, I need to replace the hard drive so any advice you can provide will be life saving. Especially since this is my wife's laptop...Haven't told her about her computer yet.

Hard Drive SMART Check: Failed

Hi,

You're welcome

The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.

 1Tb Notebook Hard Drive.

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Once done, use your Recovery Media to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - a guide on this can be found on the following link.

http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03489643

Regards,

Hard Drive SMART Check: Failed

Hi,

Unfortunately the drive you mention will not work as it;s a 3.5" ( ie for a tower PC )

Basically, any 2.5" sata 2 or sata 3 notebook hard drive should be fine - let me know if you have another option you can purchase locally.

Regards,

Hi,

The cost can vary a bit depending on where in the world you live - I'm in the UK and they're around £35 - £40.

I can't see a link for this media on your notebooks product page, but you should be able to order the media by contacting HP directly - see the link below.
