How to find product key?

HP Recommended
HP Envy DV7
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I was using Windows 10 on my laptop before, then I switched to a linux operating system. I have now reinstalled Windows 10 using the recovery disk made from the first instillation. How can I find the product key and enter it into windows?

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I read your post about needing to retrieve your product key and wanted to help.

Unfortunately, HP does not keep any records of individual product keys tied to individual PCs, so there is no way to get that information from HP.

IF the PC came with Win7, there is a sticker on the PC (probably inside the battery compartment) that will have the product key printed on it.

IF the PC came with Win8 or newer, there is no such sticker as, starting with Win8, the product key was embedded into the UEFI firmware on the motherboard -- and the only way to retrieve that is to run a utility, which you can't do unless you boot the PC into some version of Windows.

Here is a utility you can use to retrieve the product key from the UEFI firmware:  Showkey - Windows 10 Forums

IF you have a Win10 installation media, you can boot using that, install that tool, and then use it to retrieve the product key.

Good Luck
