Hp spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I went to turn on my computer today and it turned on with only 9% battery, so naturally I plugged in my charger. the notebook would not charge at all. I unplugged the adapter and tried new outlets, testing other electronics on the outlets as well. Eventually, the computer died as it had low battery and now I cannot turn it on because the charger isn't working. I assumed there was an issue with the charger, went to Best Buy and they tried another charger which did not work. When I plug it in and press the power button, the light by the charge port blinks 3 times, but the computer does not power on. Can anyone offer some insight? Not sure what is going on or what to do next...

@Mondaze

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP notebook. I understand that your notebook does not turn on and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Performing a hard reset.

  • Then Connect the AC power adapter, and verify that the battery power LED glows.
  • Allow the battery to charge for 15 - 30 minutes.
  • Attempt to start the computer.

Click here to refer the document and perform troubleshooting steps mentioned above to fix this issue.

Let me know how it goes.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.

I have exactly this same problem.  My spectre x360 13-4005dx just stopped taking a charge.  I tried the hard reset, suggested here and elsewhere, and to no avail.   Nothing I do will get it to reset (as far as I can tell) or take a charge again.  Just the three blinking lights near the power port when I try to turn it on.

It seems like this is a very common problem, but I'm not sure what to do to get it repaired.  Most said they had to send back to HP because there was a design flaw with the motherboard.   I would appreciate someone contacting me to try to fix this problem.

Thank you,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I see that your HP Spectre x360 13 notebook does not turn on. I would like to help you out with this issue today.

  • Check the AC adapter to confirm that all of the plugs are securely seated.
  • Connect the notebook to AC power and attempt to start the computer again.
  • Check the AC adapter to confirm that all of the plugs are securely seated.
  • If the AC adapter features an LED power indicator, check to see if the AC adapter LED is lit to verify that the computer is receiving power from the wall outlet.
  • If the computer operates on AC power correctly, charge the battery for thirty minutes to one hour, and then restart the computer.

Click here and follow the steps mentioned under Notebook battery light LED flashes.

Let me know how it goes.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

It did not work with the hard reset. The case is sealed. Unscrewing it I see that the hard drive is covered in black tape. Nothing changed after removing the battery and then re attaching it. From what I can read the memory is beneath the motherboard and soldered on. I'm leaving that all in place. This is a bit more technical than I'm qualified for.

The further assistance costs $530 when I've seen on this site that too many people have experienced this problem.

For those searching for an answer to the problem, the laptop had to be sent back to HP for repairs.   I had purchased a care pack, so they took care of it.  (Even though the problem should have been taken care of for free due to so many others having the issue.)     So there is no easy fix.   HP will have to repair it, when it was their manufacturing glitch to cause the problem in the first place.    They should do the repairs for free, but don't.
