Keyboard: Random Keys Not Working Despite Change of Keyboard

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys,

Something really strange started happening two days ago. Out of the blue the following keys stopped working:

G

H

Backspace

Windows Key

@'

The laptop is a couple of years old and a bit dusty, so I took it to the local shop to get the keyboard replaced and cleaned.

Seemed to be working fine when I left the shop. Then, a little while ago the space key and P stopped. Five minutes later they started working again but ctrl stopped and N is temperamental.

I haven't spilt anything on it or knocked it.

Any ideas what's going on?

Keyboard: Random Keys Not Working Despite Change of Keyboard

@Ishuheri Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the Random Keys Not Working Despite Change of Keyboard

Since you've already replaced the keyboard and yet the issue persists,

please try the below steps:

1) Go to control panel.
2) Go to "regional and language option"
3) go to "language “tab
4) Click on details.
5) Select the default input language as English (United States) us
6) Installed services in keyboard select the US, click Apply

Restart the computer and that should fix the issue.

This could also be an issue with the sticky keys, so please turn it off using the below steps:

Disable Sticky or Filter Keys

If you didn’t click on the “Go to the Ease of Access Center” link, you can simply navigate in Control Panel to the Ease of Access center, and find the link for “Make the keyboard easier to use”.

Once you are there, you’ll want to make sure the boxes for “Turn on Sticky Keys” or “Turn on Filter Keys” are turned off—which simply means the feature isn’t active at the moment but doesn’t mean the annoying popup will go away.

For that, you’ll have to click on either “Set up Filter Keys” or “Set up Sticky Keys” (or both).

Keyboard: Random Keys Not Working Despite Change of Keyboard

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Weirdly, everything started working normally again by itself yesterday evening.

If the problem reoccurs, I'll try this solution.

Thanks again.

Keyboard: Random Keys Not Working Despite Change of Keyboard

So sorry, me again.

All of my number keys except 5 and 6 have stopped working, as well as the shift items above them, except %^.

I went to the language settings and it says English UK, which is what I want.

Checked the sticky keys and filters - all turned off.

I'm at a total loss. Everything was working fine a couple of hours ago. It seems so completely random.
