Laptop won't boot!!(stuck on HP screen)

Greetings, It's a long story of a format gone very wrong, so I'll try to keep it short , I hope you guys can help me :(

2 years ago I bought a HP pavilion dv5-1199e(Win vista 32-bit), everything was ok.. later I upgraded to Win 7 (32-bit) and everything was ok as well.... later, I decided to format the laptop to clean things up and make it faster again. I did this with the Win 7 DvD.. I formatted the C: drive but kept the Recovery drive(for obvious reasons). At first things appeared ok until I noticed that the FN+f7/f8 button(to adjust brightness) wasn't working.. then I noticed that my laptop was telling me that my Graphics card only had 12MB of Ram.. so I came to the conclusion that the drivers were gone and I need to reinstall them

Now, I would have downloaded the drivers from HP's site, but the thing is that my internet is very slow and very limited, so I thought "what If I use the recovery drive and format back to Vista then upgrade to 7 again.. that should work and get the drivers back!"....at first I tried to press F11 upon startup but it did nothing, that is until I found out I had to set the recovery drive to active via the "Manage" button.. I did that.. and when I pressed F11 it worked, now here is where the troubles begin..

I followed the system restore instructions and did it.. but after system restore was done, after restart, upon Vista installation startup I got an error message saying "The system registry contains invalid file paths. Installation cannot proceed. This system image was applied without guaranteeing that drive-letter assignments would match across computers." I pressed OK and it restarted the laptop.. back to the vista installation and I got an error message.. something like "there was an unexpected restart, windows will restart again". So I thought that maybe if I did the system restore again.. it would work. so upon bootup.. I pressed F11 and did the system restore again... worked.. but after when it restarted.. the HP screen comes and .. then nothing happens!! it just stays on the "HP Invent" logo screen.. and on the bottom left corner it said  "Press the ESC key for startup menu" even when I press it.. nothing happens.. the laptop makes a beep sound for any key you touch :(

so that's the story, Is there anyway that this can be fixed??  ;/

Any assistance shall be greatly appreciated :(

Is there anything (ex. USB HDD, Bluetooth Dongle, Mouse, keyboard, etc. ) plugged into the laptop when you're trying to boot it?

Laptop won't boot!!(stuck on HP screen)

First do this:

==> remove the battery, other peripherals and the AC adapter... press and hold the power button for 20 seconds... plug the AC adapter only and turn on the notebook....

==> Then Remove the Hard Drive as well and try to boot to BIOS  (F10 on startup)...

==> if still no go then remove the memory moduls and swap the slots... start the notebook with one module only..

==> try to go to BIOS...

plz perform the above steps and get back to us with the results.

Laptop won't boot!!(stuck on HP screen)

Thank you for the replies. I took my laptop to a computer specialist and he analysed that for some reason my Hard drive crashed after my 2nd recovery attempt... weird = /

so to replace my hard drive's gonna cost $75 (320GB - same basically) and tomorrow when I get it back I'm gonna ask him if I can buy a HP win 7 recovery disc(his store has supplies from HP, toshiba.. etc..) or a copy of the drivers so that if I need to format in the future things won't get ugly again.

Again thank you for the help.

Laptop won't boot!!(stuck on HP screen)

Thank you, Oso, so much. It worked! Why does it not boot up when attached to wireless keyboard and mouse? Oops, now it's not connecting to them nor to the internet. I see the mouse showing the hourglass...something working in the background. Aah, found it. I forgot to plug wireless receiver back in after boot up. Everything working fine. All I had to do was remove the power source, (battery & ac adapter) the wireless keyboard/mouse receiver and it rebooted. This machine is an HP Pav dv9830us notebook. Vista upgraded to windows 7
