MY HP-Spectre I-7 came yesterday. Today is the first day i used. It is unbearable to keep it in lap. Is this normal or something wrong with this. It IS TOOOOO HOT. Also when chanrging i started working on it just on MS Word and its mouse got bonkers. I restarted laptop, removed charging lid and placed its leather bag beneath, then had been able to work. I had Envy -I-7 before that which was not too hot. What s the issue. Am so disappointed from this laptop

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have a new HP Spectre series laptop and it overheats without performing complex tasks on it. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Does the laptop power off by itself when it overheats?
  • After how long does the laptop start to overheat once you power it on?
  • Do you hear te fan spinning inside the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the ac adapter and power on the laptop.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Please perform a BIOS update on your laptop via this link: www.hp.com/drivers. I was not sure of the exact model no. therefore could not send you the direct BIOS update link.

You could also refer to this HP document to fix overheating issues in your laptop.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂
