ENVY i5 Gen 7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all

I just bought a new laptop ENVY i5 7th Gen couple of months back from Toronto. It was working fine until last wk when I started feeling that the system is heating up within 10 minutes of startup. I need assistance that why this is happening as there was no such complain previously.  How I may resolve it?

I would like to add here that I am in Asia right now and I dont have international warranty with me. Its under local warranty but to avail that I have to send it back to Canada which obviouosly not an easy job.

Any asistance in this regard would be appreciated.

Hi @Dr_Adnan,

Thanks for visiting the HP community.  A good day to you. I came across your post where you require assistance regarding overheating issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Splendid effort and commendable description of the issue. Kudos to you on that score.:)

🙂

I would require more information regarding this:

  • Please let me know the complete model# of the computer.
  • Does it overheat and shut down?
  • Does the computer freeze?
  • Did you perform a bios update?

For a start, please update the bios and chipset drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers please select the country and type the product# of the computer. Then select the correct operating system and install the bios and chipset drivers.

Then please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01657439

and check if it resolves the issue.

I request you to try and perform all the steps from this document patiently to try and resolve the issue. Please remember that I am trying to assist you and not to burden you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. It is better to have more resources and information at your disposal rather than not to have any.

If it still does not work, then the computer has a hardware issue.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.  🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
