No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

[ Edited ]
Product Name: G62 b45ew
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

My network adapter suddenly stopped working...

Yesterday everything was OK, today I booted my laptop with ethernet cable pługged in, but I couldn't acces the Internet.

I haven't installed any updates.

LED lights near ethernet port blinks (white continous light, amber blinking).

I've checked Device Manager - my network adapter disapeared. No hidden device (beside this Microsoft stuff), no exclamation marks.

I was using ethernet cable because my wifi card is probably damaged (I couldn't get the WiFi to work - orange light on F12 and no wifi adapter in Device manager).

Pinging localhost gives some results.

Also while booted into Linux the network is not working - no device in lspci or ifconfig...

Re: No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

Hallo Derics,

This sound really strange.

Try go to start and press on search on files and programs. Search for Recovery manager. If you have that program on the computer there should be a tab with reinstall Drivers and softwares or Software and Programs. Please find your LAN + Wifi driver there and check if that help by installing this drivers again.

Thanks

please let me know if you have any problems.

Re: No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

Well then I would recommend you to run a Hw test on it. The way to get in there is by shutdown the computer, Press alot of times on F2 when you power it on. It should then enter a hardware diagnostic test. You should have Something with LAN/Wifi test. Check if the cards are damaged or defect.

Re: No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

No HP UEFI test available for me :(

When I press F2 Basic Hardware Diagnostic tool pops up, allowing me to test memory and hard disk only...

Is there any other way to check if it's hardware network adapter or motherbord failure?

Re: No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

Hallo,

Found this HP UEFI test, should match your computer.

If you have another computer and a USB flash drive. you can move and install it on your computer then you should have some other options always.

Hope this helps you.

Re: No network adapter in device manager - ethernet LED blinks

I've manager to download UEFI with components test, but Network test gives me an error: UEFI Networking does not appear to be supported or enabled on the system. Please check BIOS settings to make sure UEFI network option ROMs are enabled and that UEFI network boot is enabled

However there are no network settings in BIOS...
