Not able to install Windows 7 on HP Pavilion G4 which came with Free DOS

Hi All,

Yesterday i bought HP Pavilion G4 1315AU model laptop. It came with Free DOS operating system.

I put one of my Windows 7 CD which has a valid license key in CD drive. But the laptop is not recognising it and it is automatically booting to Free DOS .

I changed boot options order also and made CD drive as the first option.

Can any one help me how i can remove Free DOS and install windows 7

Hi,

Try the following.

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 installation disc.  Select 'Boot Options' ( usually f9 ).  Use the arrow keys to highlight the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  If you get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue......', do so.

Regards,

Hi,

Does your optical drive recognise any bootable discs?

If not, another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 USB flash drive installer.

Using another PC - just download and save the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that you have on your installation disc ) from the link below - these Images are from Digital River.

Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

When done, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a bootable usb Windows 7 installer - you'll need a 4Gb flash drive for this.

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

When created, tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 flash drive.  Select the Boot Options menu ( f9 ).  Use the arrow keys to highlight the flash drive and hit enter.
