Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Notebook has not updated for several months. I have manually checked for updates through HP Support Assistant  but always comes back with nothing to update. Also when I have checked history there are several failed updates for various items. Can someone PLEASE help?

There are indeed no updates to the HP Drivers for your notebook.

Reminder:  Operating System Updates are provided / controlled by Windows Updates

The most recent noted update is the BIOS update and that update is dated August 2016.

Other HP Updates are much older than that (2013, 2014).

If you think your notebook needs an update, check the relevant Driver in the Device Manager and compare to the Driver at the Support page.

Check BIOS version:

Open a command prompt window with Admin privileges:

Windows key + X + A

type command:

wmic bios get biosversion

NOTE:  wmic command strings work in all recent versions of Windows

Side Bar - HPSA and the BIOS Update

Do NOT, NOT use the HP Support Assistant to Update the BIOS.

Always update the BIOS manually and ONLY:

  • When you have read the instructions
  • When the update is intended to fix a problem on your computer
  • When you understand that even when you do everything exactly right, BIOS updates carry an element of risk.
