Pavilion Laptop 202GCGLL
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Within the last couple of days, even though my HP Pavilion running Win 10 - 64 is still plugged into the wall and the battery is full, it keeps turning itself off after I close the lid.  It doesn't do it every time, yet. It is NOT hot.

Hello @dburdette

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

Recently, Microsoft released a new big update known as Creators Update. Was it deployed recently on your PC ? Can you click on Start > type winver  and open the app. Post the entire info about your Windows version.

If CU was not recently installed, did you deploy any other software or driver update recently that you can connect to the time when this issue started ?

Could you review these articles:

and

Update your drivers for all the major hardware componets like network adapters, video and sound cards, etc.

Perform the necessary adjustments to the power settings.

Looking forward to your reply. Provide your details.

Yes, I did receive a huge windows update that took quite some time to completely finish. It restarted my laptop several times.

I took a snippet of the version and will post it for you to look at. I hope this is what you were asking for.

Hello @dburdette

Thank you for the update.

Windows the release of Windows 10, Microsoft changed the service and product model. Windows 10 is now considered operating system as a service and they release new feature updates very often (not just smaller fixed and smaller updates). Windows 10 updates on its own automatically and recently Microsoft released this big update you have noticed known as Creators Update (build 1703). Here is detailed description what is new >> https://www.howtogeek.com/278132/whats-new-in-windows-10s-creators-update/

In order to fix the issue you can :

(1)

Review these articles

and

Update your drivers for all the major hardware componets like network adapters, video and sound cards, etc. Use the Device Manager method  or  go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Get all the latest drivers for your machine and update them.

Perform the necessary adjustments to the power settings.

-or-

If the above does not solve your issues and they cause you inconvenience, you can

(2) Revert back to the previous Windows build - edition - build 1607 - Anniversary update

Here is how to :

If you decide to go with option (2), note that you only have 10 days after installing the newest Creators Update (CU) to restore back to previous builds. After that, there will be an option but it will be a slightly more difficult one.

Eventually, you may want to set your connection as Metered in order to prevent CU from being reinstalled temporary

Let me know if this works for you. Provide your feedback and update

I don't know why I didn't think of it in the first place. But going back to a well known date seems to have done the trick. The new Windows update I guess has a few bugs to work out.

Thanks for your help, it is appreciated.

Have a blessed evening.
