Hello Sam123kate,

Please try Hard Reset before we try anything :

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start.

You might want to take a look at this document: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.

It suggests troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is the battery, the power supply, or the system board.

You might find the answer to your battery/power issue as you work through the steps in that HP support article.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

THREE DAYS -- take it back to where you purchased it, and demand a replacement.

You didn't buy something made in the Far East at a "Dollar Store" -- you spent a lot of money to get something with a WARRANTY.

You should not be "on the hook" to deal with any problem.
