Hp Elitebook 8440p
Linux
Hi all, i would like to upgrade my hp Elitebook 8440p Ram to 8 gb (currently i have 2 gb).

I have already found a similar topic with more or less the same problem
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/hp-elitebook-8440p-memory-upgra...

But i am not sure if my i5-540m can support the DDR3 PC3-10600, i think max should be pc3-8500 right?

Thx for help in advance

I don't understand why 1600 MHz is fine, i5-540m can support max 1066mhz according to intel 😕

That is not how it works. The BIOS in the notebook is the determinant on which memory frequency type will work and that is based on the ROM  file that the BIOS engineers write for the notebok based on the chipset and components in the system board.

For the average user, and that would be yourself, let the memory manufacturers guarantee and provide compatible memory modules.

Hi:

Please see this discussion.  You have to be very careful what memory you install or it won't work.

Thank you very much for the answers,i think that i'll go with this ones (i can't buy from usa, i'm from Italy):

https://www.amazon.it/dp/B005LDLVAO?tag=ps-it-crucial-02-21&m=A11IL2PNWYJU7H

I checked on crucial website and they guarantee 100℅ compatibility.

You're very welcome.

Those won't work.  They are 1.35V and PC3-12800.

You'll most likely be sending them back.

Contact G.Skill and see where you can get the catalog # the person from the Netherlands bought.

I had posted the G.Skill contact link on that discussion.

Hi:

I can't say for sure because I only know for sure that the G.Skill memory will work.

However, the first link you posted seems very promising.

http://www.qmaxtech.it/it/memorie-sdrddrddr2ddr3ddr4/44101-transcend-jet-4gb-1333mhz-ddr3-nonecc-cl9...

It has 8 little black memory chips on each side of the board (low density).

It is 1.5V.

It is PC3-1333 (PC3-10600).

Those are all good things.

The second link, the memory only has 4 little black chips on each side of the circuit board, and those normally will not work in the 8440p.

So, if you decide to get the above memory, let us know if it works.

The more brands and types of memory we know work, the better to help others.

I think i found it, can you please confirm if this ones Will work?

If yes, i think i'll go with this ones.

Thx again for the help
