Registration pop-up

HP Recommended

After re-installing the factory software I am getting a persistent pop-up every few minutes inviting me to register.

Whatever I choose, 'Remind Me', 'Don't Remind Me Again', or 'Register Now' (which I have done) the pop-up keeps on re-appearing. It's driving me crazy.

How do I kill it?

I'm not sure exactly what the process is called but you can go to the Start Menu (in XP) and click Run, then type in MSCONFIG and hit enter.  In the window that opens up click the Start-Up tab and try to find the HP Register process and deselect it.  Click apply, close out, and reboot.  That should kill it.  Perhaps someone else who reads this can give you the name of the process if you can't find it.

Hi Alan,

From the control panel go to administrative tools and chose task manager.  Click once on the task scheduler library to view running tasks in the upper pane.  Click once on the first task then click the action tab on the lower pane.  This should give you a good idea of what the task actually does.  When you find the one responsible for the Registration Popup, simply right click on the task in the upper pane and select delete.

These type of pop-up entries are often prefixed 'webreg'

Best wishes,

DP-K
