Replace hard drive

Pavilion dv7-6163us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I wish to to install a larger hard drive in my DV7.  I have read the forum related to the Pavilion 15 replacement (which I also own and will replace). I have also accessed the manual for the DV7, but it doesn't give the exact size of hard drive.  Please confirm the size of the hard drive for the DV7 and a suggestion as to what make/model & where I may purchase.  Thank you!

Replace hard drive

Hi,

Manual: Page 6,34,56-59 -->

Any 2.5" 9.5mm/7mm internal notebook SATA hard drive preferably 7200rpm 32gb cache HDD (for storage) or SSD (for speed) will be good.

Your laptop came with 750gb HDD in the primary bay (right hand drive bay). But it also have a secondary drive bay on the left hand side for accommodating extra storage HDD. So you just have to buy HP part number 641306-001- hard drive hardware kit compromising of secondary hard drive connector cable and bracket, so that you can put another HDD in this secondary bay for storage.

What I'll do is move 750gb main drive to secondary bay for storage and put a new SSD as boot drive in primary bay so that overall boost in system performance is seen.

You can use recovery discs/USB to factory reset OS to SSD. Or else you can image the drive to SSD using Macrium Reflect Free software and make SSD primary drive to boot from.
