I had no problems at all for past 36 hours, I feel like I can almost trust it not to ruin my unsaved work when I put it to sleep. Cannot be sure what changed. I had video drivers from Intel installed from the beginning so this wasn't the fix for me because I had lots of bsods with them installed. Tonight I will do clean install again and try to find out what did the trick for me and, of course, I will report back in detail.

edit: I just saw new bios version is out for ProBook 470 G1. Any advice? Should I update? Thanks.

I've FIXED my Laptop!

Gone back to good old Windows 8.1 and oh such bliss to have a laptop that:

1) Boots faster

2) Sleeps when I want it to

3) Shuts down ... I actually clapped!

4) Accepts Norton is my default Security and Fallwall (Windows 10 kept shutting it off)

I cannot believe I have spent almost 6 days trying to fix my laptop problems with Windows 10, I feel like I have been robbed!

Word of advice to those wanting / thinking of reverting back to Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1

1) Make back up discs just in case anything goes wrong.

2) Be ready to stop the automatic download and install of Windows 10 again... I just caught my laptop trying to download Windows 10 again when I had reverted back.

3) Once you are back to your old system - disabled automatic updates until you have removed the following:

KB3035583 - This is the icon for Windows 10 that appears in the taskbar at the bottom of the page. Uninstall in, and hide it, you can always install it again at a later date if you want.

KB2976978 - This is the Windows 10 Download itself - Uninstall and hide if you do not wish to have Windows 10 screw up your computer again. You can of course install it again at a later date.

Good Luck... I may try and re-install 12 months down the line!

I spoke with HP today to a very polite gentleman. He acknowledged that there is a bug; and together with windows they are in the process of fixing. He indicated that approx 1 week and it will be part of the automatic updates.

i do believe him; but also expressed that it would be in their benefit ti communicate as there are some really upset people. He agreed.

i escalated to his supervisor who agreed on communicating; but apparently we should be seeing alerts on there website.

Whilst i am not happy over these issues; i knew we would have problem and did not want to upgrade right away but.....

either way; i do feel kind of confident it should be resolved. I am going to use the HP support program to check for updates every day

That's the best response I've read on here! Hopefully it doesn't take too long! Thanks for posting.

I've been following this thread for several days now and I thought it might be helpful to give you my experience. I have an HP Pavillion 17 Notebook PC.

  • I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1on day 1 and had all the problems reported here
  • I found this thread and tried what was being suggested, but nothing worked permanently
  • I got fed up with the situation and went back to 8.1 - a relatively quick and painless process
  • Did an HP Update and got a message from HP entitled something like "Get ready for Windows 10"
  • In the message it said make sure you do updates of Windows and HP software and the BIOS before proceeding
  • I discovered my BIOS was not the latest so I updated to that one - F.42-03/18/2015.
  • After a while, I plucked up courage and upgraded to Windows 10 again.
  • I did this a couple of days ago and this time everything is fine

I have checked all updates and I am up todate on everything so not sure how that works for some and not for others.
Anyway as HP have obviously now acknowledged there is a bug and are working on it I will wait out for a few more days and hope, as Windows 10 other than this is way better than 8.1

I have some drivers that needed updated right before I upgraded to Windows 10. But now that I'm using Windows 10 they can't be updated. So that could be similar to what your saying. But I guess we just have to wait for the official fix. I'm just happy that it's finally being acknowledged.

Ciao folks, thanks to everyone that tried to fix the problems with Windows 10. I am glad to be back to running Windows 8.1 - oh how I have missed thee!

I am outta here!
