Scanner Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000015). The device is not ready.

When trying to scan I keep receiving an error message.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000015).  The device is not ready.

What does this mean?  I have been able to scan without problems in the pas, with Windows 7 Fax and Scan.

Printer : HP PhotoSmart 2710

Computer: HP Pavilion zd8000 (originally XP)

I checked the Windows help site and no luck so far. I followed their solution but didnot work.

My "Windows Image Acquisition" service is already working. I did restarted the services and the PC but no luck so far.

I will appreciate any help. I used to solve this issue when I restart my scanner but this time nothing is working so far.

Variations from  D who had answer that I used:

1. Click on start 2. Type Services or Services.msc in the search part. 3. Now scroll to the following services in the window that got opened.

Click on - Standard Tab (actually I (Charlie58) found Extended tab had labels top left for Stop, Start, Restart and Pause as necessary to click on so may be easier).

    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Was on
    • DCOM Server Process Launcher. Was on
    • RPC Endpoint Mapper. Was on
    • Shell Hardware Detection . Was off

Enable those services. To do so right click on them, click properties and make it automatic. Once you enable all of them start them. After all the services are started scroll for "Windows Image Acquisition" (Was off) make this automatic too and start it. Just reboot your PC and you should be good to go.
