Solved!

Seagate external hard drive not recognized by usb 3 port.

HP Pavilion Star wars
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Seagate 1tb external hd is not recognized by the usb 3 ports,  the usb 2 port works fine.  Had the same problem with the same drive on my ASUS q302la and was advised by ASUS to disable legacy usb support in the bios and that worked, but there is no similar bios switch in the Starwars bios.

Solved!

Seagate external hard drive not recognized by usb 3 port.

Hello @jerryemery,

Thank you for the quick reply!

You can try shutting off the Fast Startup option.  Please review the following resource to help you, if needed: Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10

If you are still having trouble, and the USB 3.0 port works with other devices, then you may consider contacting Seagate Support.

I hope this helps.

Regards!

Seagate external hard drive not recognized by usb 3 port.

That didn't work.  Does anyone actually know how to fix this rather than just suggest I look somewhere else.  Does HP have a real tech somewhere?  Here's a suggestion, how about hp come up with a solution or I return the product as defective.

Solved!

Seagate external hard drive not recognized by usb 3 port.

Hello @jerryemery,

Thank you for the quick reply!

If you believe the issue to be hardware related, you can try reviewing this document to test the hardware: HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 😎

However, it seems that there are no issues with your USB 2.0/3.0 ports.  The Seagate device also seem to have issues with communicating with other notebooks as well.  If the HP hardware passes the test, then it does not seem to be defective.  Since the Seagate device is a none HP product, Seagate Support may know best for how to troubleshoot their own product.  If the HP notebook passes the hardware test, and you still believe it to be defective, then you may consider contacting HP Phone Support for additional options.  Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.

Hello @jerryemery,

Thank you for the quick reply!

The Failure ID provided does not pull up any information about the test done.  Usually the Failure ID will provide what hardware is being tested, the date of the test, and the error message.  Can you please double check the Failure ID?  If the Failure ID is accurate, then as stated in my previous post, you may consider contacting HP Phone Support, since the issue is hardware related.
