Two USB ports not working Host Controller missing

HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have two USB ports which recently stopped working.  They are both located on the left side of the notebook. There are two ports on the right side which are operational. The two non-working ports have power can I can use them for charging a device (phone, etc.). However, they do not recognize any USB device. No Errors are emitted but no devices show up either.

Device manager reported a controller as having a problem. I unistalled the device (Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller) and then ran a scan for hardware changes. The scan did not detect the controller. I have a feeling this is a hardware failure of the motherboard but am hopeful there may be another solution.

Device Manager also reports a problem with USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller

Thanks,

John

Hi @The_Woodster,

Thank you for participating in the HP Forums!

I have read your post and understand that there are two USB ports on your laptop stopped working. I want to assist you.

You can test the hardware by going into the UEFI, then going into the component tests, and choose the USB port.

Here is the document you can review for the process: HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8)

If the test failed, you may consider contacting HP phone support to arrange a repair:
