UpDrvLtr on Hp pavillon dv6... what to do?

Hello,

I recently tried to do a factory restore on my HP Pavillon DV6 (proc Intel P6100). In this way, I used the recovery manager with my recovery disks. Almost at the end of the install, I get a DOS window that opens, titled x:\windows\systwm32\cmd.exe, with the following text:
"Please wait...
upDrvLtr : C:
ERROR: An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.
ERROR: The system was unable  to find the specified registry key or value.
ERROR: The parameter is incorrect.

After that, I can't do anything and my computer stays out of order. I even tried to install an ubuntu, but it didn't work (I/O error too).

Do you think there is still a way to recover it or no?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

UpDrvLtr on Hp pavillon dv6... what to do?

Hi Tom,

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Regards,

UpDrvLtr on Hp pavillon dv6... what to do?

Hello David,

Thank you for your interest in my problem.

I ran the tests on the Hard Drive and the memory, as you suggested. It passed the memory test, but for the case of the Hard Drive diagnostic...

It is stuck at 2%, untill I get this message :

    "Hard Drive 1 Quick (303)"

And then it ends the diagnostic. I have no clue of what it means, but if it can help you...

Regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

The 303 error would indicate a physical fault with the Hard Drive - the only solution is to replace it.

If your notebook is under warranty, contact HP to get this replaced.  If you're out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing this yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. or Part No. of your notebook.

Regards,

UpDrvLtr on Hp pavillon dv6... what to do?

Hello David,

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, my computer is no more under warranty. I guess I should do this by myself. Any guide would be appreciated. The model of my computer is a dv6-1340sf. Which Hard drive would you advise me?

By the way, do you know where this physical problem can come from?

Regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

The drive on the link below would be fine for your notebook.

500Gb Hard Drive

The procedure to replace the Hard Drive is detailed starting on Page 54 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

If you don't have your Recovery Discs, try the link below to see if you can order a replacement.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00810334

If you have any problem using the above link, in the US, order them directly from HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Regards,
