Well, Corsair is famous, but I wonder that my machine support Sata 3?
The specs say up to 8GB but the chipset supports up to 16GB as it supports SATA 6.0 connection. However, the BIOS might be modified and RAM reduced to 8GB by its settings. I would say that 8GB is enough anyway..

Hi,
No, the chipset won't let you because the maximum supported is only 8GB of RAM. Buy an SSD drive if you want really fast system for games..

I thought it's clear. The chipset supports maximum 8GB of RAM. You can't upgrade to 2 x 8GB because the laptop won't handle it and the BIOS most likely won't let you boot up even with a single 8GB module installed in..

16GB for a Dual 2 Core laptop is pointless anyway. The CPU can't handle the latest games so games which the laptop can handle don't need much memory so 4GB is more than enough. I have 8GB and my laptop uses max 400MB when idle and up to 1GB when doing some more hw demanding tasks.
An ssd will be better upgrade than adding more memory. BSOD may occur but it's an OS issue not a hw one. I get a bsod as well but I don't use Windows so don't bother about that..

Hmm, it's strange. Dv7-4000 to dv7-4299 laptops should have a GM55 or PM55 chipset according to the manual for your laptop. I'm a bit confused when a dv7-4296 laptop has a Sandy Bridge processor, so there has to be a HM65 or any other Cougar Point chipset. These chipsets support up to 16GB of ram but the specs for the laptop say max up to 8GB of ram..
I prefer Corsair but Intel, Crucial or OCZ are also very good products..
