I've been looking for awhile now and have had no luck finding an upgrade to my NVIDIA video card. My notebook is an HP Pavillion dv2700, the video card is:  NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M. I've done the auto-detect option on the NVIDIA driver website, and when I do, I get redirected to the GeForce website and receive the following message (from the autodetect):

"GeForce 7150M / nForce 630 has been detected in your system. [random string of numbers and symbols] requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site".

One thing I did try was downloading the update from HP's driver-update site, but this is an older upgrade than the one I need (I don't understand why, but I've had more than one of my programs tell me that).

Anyone able to give me advice or let me know where/how I can get the proper driver update?

Please identify your notebook/pc

Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker.

Post item number 2 as seen on the following example of an HP notebook's barcoded sticker. The barcode on your HP product may be slightly different in appearance, but will still have the important information needed for us to help you.

###Do not post the serial number of your product as it is private and considered to be personal information.###

Post the installed operating system version (state whether it is 32 or 64-bit ) and the CPU as an AMD or Intel product

Not posting all of the information as requested could delay our responses and slow troubleshooting of the issue that led you to author a thread.

Is your notebook/PC still within its warranty period?

Thanks for replying,

I just checked the sticker and the code is: FE951UA#ABA. Also, I just noticed on the sticker it says my system is an HP Pavillion dv2500, however under "System" in Control Panel, it tells me I'm dv2700...  I'm not sure why.

My operating system is Vista 32-bit, and the CPU is AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60.

Unfortunately I don't think the warranty is still valid because the notebook is at least 2 years old and was given to me as a gift.

Please start your notebook and use the HP Support Assistant. On the first page at the bottom will be a product name.

Another method is to access the BIOS. At the bottom of the first screen there will e a product name.

The reason I ask that is that with the p/n that you stated the HP support site thinks you have a dv2929se notebook. That differs greatly from what you have seen so far.  It is important that we identify your notebook properly.

it sure looks like the HP site might be correct. everything else seems to match what you stated

I confirmed through the BIOS screen that I am an HP Pavillion dv2700 Notebook. However, under the BIOS screen I also see that my Product Number is still FE951UA#ABA

PLease download and run CPU-z. It is a utility that will give information about your system. It should tell us which motherboard is installed. Run the program and select the Minoard tab. Post all of the information in the first part af the tab.

Thanks, I downloaded/installed CPU-z, here are the specs under the Mainboard tab:

Manufacturer: Wistron

Model: 30D6 - 81.53

Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 560 Rev: A2

Southbridge: (same as chipset)

LPCIO: NS

Brand: Hewlett-Packard

Version: F28

The actual model is dv2928se. HP's naming scheme with series and models within a series gets a bit confusing to owners. I have a dv2810us which has dv2500 on the Service Tag (3) _but also has dv2810us in Section 1 of the tag. I bet yours has dv2928se in that section?

HP Service Tag

Btw.HP doesn't really do drivers updates on models once they reach a certain age and I'm afraid our dv series has passed that age.Actually I run Windows 7 on mine now.

Your notebook has UMA graphics. So that means that your graphics is provided by an integrated chip solution. (soldered onto the motherboard)   There is no discrete graphics module installed that can be upgraded. The only graphics upgrade available for your notebook are external graphics solutions. They are exotic and relatively expensive. The video gives a example.

If you really like playing with tech and wouldn't mind making your own external graphic setup read this interesting article. This would work with yours since your notebook does have an ExpressCard/54 slot. The ExpressCard/54 slot is required to even consider doing what is suggested in the tutorial. This is far less expensive than using the ViDock, especially if you happen to have high power 3D video cards laying around. I might try this out for myself just for the fun. 🙂

Best regards,

erico
