I bought a new laptop which is a HP Pavilion G7-1338dx, but I've noticed that the wireless signal is very weak, about 4 meters from the router 1 or 2/5 bar signal, and I cannot use it upstairs as it doesn't connect at all such as my other HP computer or my other wireless devices such as phone, among others.
Is there any way to fix this or should I take it back and get a different one, or do they all that this problem?
Your help is appreciated

Below is the link to the latest driver for your wireless card - 126.96.36.199 (6 Jun 2012)
If you have an earlier version than that one, try this one. You can see what version and date driver you have by clicking on the ralink wireless adapter in the device manager and click on the driver tab.

I have the same problem. Very weak signal with the Ralink RT5390R 188.8.131.52. Are these poor drivers? Defective cards? Flawed system design?
I've put a significant effort into configuring this system already, so I'm hoping for a solution that doesn't require sending the system back to HP.

You can always try the driver directly from the mfr.
Download and install from the 4th grouping at the link below.
Another thing you can try is to change the broadcast channel in your router's wireless configuration menu to 1 or 11 and see if that helps.

New computer with Windows 8 operating system. WFI light (f12) lit but not wireless connections found. Router working wireless on TV and other computers. The wireless worked without a flaw for month and a half and just stopped. Need fix.
