Webcam no longer detected after Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607

HP Envy m6-1125dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the automatic Windows Update, my camera is no longer detectable.

I didn't realize until now, because I ususally use my phone for video calls.

The camera does not appear under imaging devices on device manager.

Autodetecting hardware has not helped.

I cannot find any new software updates for the camera.

I installed a retro driver for the realtek 2.0 camera, but that has not helped.

I appreciate your help.

Webcam no longer detected after Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607

Hi @dezmondtutu,

Welcome to the HP forums! It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community. I read your post about the unit’s webcam not working after windows 10 cumulative update. I’ll be delighted to assist you with this.

A commendable job was done by trying to install a retro driver to check if that works. You have done awesome troubleshooting before posting your question in the HP forums. It is always a great pleasure to work with tech-savvy and technically sound customers like you. Kudos to you for that. I am amazed at your technical skills and levels of technical knowledge.

It is indeed a driver related issue here. You need to roll back your operating system to its previous version for this situation to be corrected as there are no available drivers for windows 10. Please Use the windows 10 go back feature to roll back the operating system if the installation is a recent one.

To access this, open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.” You should see a “Go back to Windows7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows. Please visit this link: http://www.howtogeek.com/220723/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-and-downgrade-to-windows-7-or-8.1/

If this does not work try system recovery to factory settings from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-j100-Select-Edition-Notebook-PC-series/6521373/model/...

As a last resort, you’ll need to order recovery media from this link: http://hp.com/drivers to run a recovery from HP recovery media.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the computer works great and stays healthy for a long time. Hope this helps. Please let me know how this works. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to appreciate my efforts. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution”.

Take care now and have a super week ahead.
