Wifi drops - have to disable then re-enable to connect

Pavilion 15 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

If my computer is not right next to the router and is idle for a while, the wifi connection drops. I have to "Open Network & Sharing Center", "Change adapter settings", disable and re-enable to reconnect. It's not a router issue since all other devices connect just fine.

Wifi drops - have to disable then re-enable to connect

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if unchecking the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' box on the Power Management tab for the wireless card in the device manager, resolves the problem.

@martemagne

There are a number of factors that can influence your wireless connection.

@Paul_Tikkanen give you good advice -- you do want to make sure the notebook is shut off when you close the lide and take it for a "walk about" (travel).

A few ideas to improve wireless connection are noted in the following document, along with suggestions to resolve the issue:

Settings to Improve Wireless Connectivity

Section(s) of interest:

  • Preparation
  • Wifi Power Management
  • Notebook wireless balks or won’t run when running on battery
  • Static IP Address

I set the power option as suggested but can't test for a couple of weeks. I'll let you know if ti works. Thanks. Marty
