HP ENVY dv6-7204ee Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello

I have an HP ENVY dv6-7204ee Notebook PC with windows 8.1 home single language as an operating system,

I need to upgrade my windows 8 to windows 10 (Fresh upgrade).

Does the windows 10 work fine with my notebook?

The Laptop drivers that I have for windows 8 work the same with windows 10?

Thank you

You are likely to have issues with the Intel/nVidia switchable graphics:

if your switchable graphics is currently working I do not recommend a wipe and clean install of Windows 10. If you must do it, post back here and we will help as much as we can to get it working. This is likely to be the only issue you have. Windows 10 will likely "just work" otherwise.

While Win8 driver might work well in Win10, there is no guarantee -- and it they don't, since HP does not have Win10 drivers for your laptop, you are then stuck with the generic drivers that Microsoft installed and with hardware that is never going to work properly,

So, BEFORE you do the Upgrade, I strongly suggest you make an image backup of your PC using a third party tool -- as this will give you something to restore FROM if the Upgrade goes poorly

I personally prefer to use third-party Recovery solutions as they tend to be both more flexible and more reliable than any built-in solutions.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.

I use this all the time and it typically takes less than 15 minutes to do the image backup and about the same time or less to do a restore.

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.

Good Luck

The switchable graphics is still working but I always prefer the Nvidia on. Concerning the clean installation, I need to do it because my hdd is dying and I should replace it.

Thank you for your help
