i to just installed windows 7 ultimate on my hp pavilion dv9260nr and drivers were not being recognized with the new operating system.  there is a work around for this.  you can force the vista drivers to work under windows 7 and it will work fine.  steps on how to do this can be found at http://www.techspot.com/blog/354/no-windows-7-drivers-yet-try-using-vistas/.  my laptop works wonders with windows 7 now.  this should fix most peoples issues for now  until when and if windows 7 drivers will be released for our laptops.

Hurl3,

Prior to migrating to Windows 7 did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?  To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7

Another resource to verify compatibility is available at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center located at the following link: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns

Also, have you attempted to update the missing drivers through Windows update? Or perhaps visit the manufacturer's site for available driver downloads?

Should you require additional assistance and guidance, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

That's got to be one of the least helpful 'tips' I've come across; you must work for HP Tech Support 😉

Hi

i have been running win 7 ultimate for the past 2-3 months with no problem then i played bishock 2 and i started to get graphics problems first a couple of lines across the screen playing the game then when i was not playing the game. it ended up every time i booted up my computer would last for about 30min before the screen went funky and the nivida drive kept crashing and restating and then went into blue screen saying driver failure failed refresh time or along those lines. i have tried old drivers, new drivers, fresh install, total format with install, but the problem is still here. i have disabled my nivida card just so that i can use my computer out of windows safe mode. i have looked on the net and i don't seem to be the only one having those problem, different graphics cards, and better cards than mine as well as the same as mine can any one help.A driver that works would be nice...

nivida gforce go 7600

Hello  ianmoran,

I had this problem once, about two years ago. I took my PC to the lab and the Graphic's Card was replaced.

You say that the problem got worse over time, and unless you replaced the drivers, I think that your Graphics Card is physically damaged, too.

If your PC is under warranty (which I doubt) - Your best solution is to take it to service.

If not - I use Nvidia's beta drivers and they work just fine (I've been using Win7 for 2-3 months too, and they're installed since):

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_win7_179.48_beta_uk.html

You can install these driver and see if the problem remains.

If you don't have warranty for your PC, you're using Nvidia's drivers and you have some technical skills:

Most of the Graphics Cards' hardware fault I've diagnosed (I'm a computer tech) were because of a faulty Capacitor.

Capacitors are small, tube-like, electronic components. They have a flat top with an X graved on it and when it malfunctions, the top bloats and sometimes bursts, like in this picture:

http://37prime.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/evga_nvidia_blown_capacitors_1080.jpg

You can try to open the PC and check the graphics card for any bloated or burst capacitors and try to replace them.

Capacitor have 3 main properties:

- Capacitance: Measured in Farad, or Micro-Farad in this case. Look for the μF number.

- Operating Voltage: V

- Physical size.

You can find a replacement on any electronics store. Capacitance and Voltage must be exact match. For the physical size, you only need it to fit back in when you reassemble it.

You can also use the Capacitors serial number to find an exact match.

Good Luck!

I have now been fighting with HP Care for months, yesterday I got a call back from a HP supervisor who told me that I had to return my OS back to Vista, because HP has yet developed and driver for Windows 7, he blamed Microsoft for not providing them with the drivers.

It is strange, I have 2 dv9000 laptops, installed Windows 7 on both. the one at work, I have had problem with my printer and scanner not working, but I can go wireless with my air card, but the laptop at home everything works great, but I can not go wireless, because the vista drivers not compatible with Windows 7, I ended up having to buy a recovery disk to reinstall my Vista so I can again get wireless connections, at lease that is what HP Care and the supervisor told me,  I was told by the supervisor to continue checking their site because they plan to have driver for windows 7 but did not know when.

I am confuse I just notice that HP is now advertising Windows 7 as a OS on a new laptop, doesn't that mean there are HP Windows 7 drivers?

Apparently you didn't read through this topic before posting to it?  The gist of this topic is that aren't, and won't officially be, drivers for this HP product line.

Call support and post useless info all you want, but nothing will change 😞

Yes I did read the earlier posting, and I was only going by what I was told, I have not idea if he was telling the truth or otherwise, none the less  I am being forced to return Vista as my OS
