Windows 8 Recovery Disks from HP don't work

Can someone help me with with error? 

 

reducer

copy file fails
from preload\base14.swm
c:\rm\image\base14.swm

 

I keep getting this error when running through the Windows  recovery  process using the DVD media HP sent me.

I see that your notebook computer is having difficulty recovering your system, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!

 

To proceed past the error message being displayed, I recommend following this document on Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 😎. This should help allow the necessary files to be copied over to your computer.

  

For more assistance, I will need to know:

  

  1. The Product and Model Number of your notebook computer.
  2. If the recovery disc is functions on another computer.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

Windows 8 Recovery Disks from HP don't work

I had the same issue when I got on disk two of the recovery media that HP sent me. I looked throught the Link you posted and did not find any solution to this problem. 

 

As for product number, mine is: D8X74UA G7-2341DX

As for your second question, the recovery media cannot be tested on any of my other machines as I do not own other HPs, nore do I wish to attempt to restore my dell to an HP image.

I understand that your notebook computer is stuck using the second recovery media, and that you have already attempted the steps in the document above. Did you get the same error message as the first post in this thread? If not, was there a different error message displayed? If you were able to test the hard drive, what were the results? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!

Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

 

 

Please re-post with the necessary information, this way I will be able to research this further for you. I look forward to your reply!

It is a Windows 8 64 Bit.

 

And yes I tried the method in the previous link and hit the same error message.

 

Ram tested good.

 

Hard drive had no smart errors or bad sectors, and passed your "HP Hard Drive Test" in the BIOS.

I tried all of the steps that were suggested to me too, but none worked.  I ran all of the tests and diagnostics in the BIOS and all turned up good results, thereby suggesting nothing wrong with my laptop. I would therefore think something's wrong with the media HP shipped.

 

I have been using Ubuntu, but would like to go back to Windows for some of my Windows-based applications.

 

Would appreicate any help.

It is good to hear from you both!

 

Since you two have completed the steps in the document above, and you are still not able to successfully recover your computers, I recommend following this document on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive. This should help you both to obtain a working copy of your recovery media.

I already paid and got the HP recovery disks from you. Can you tell me how to get them to not have this error? If you can not, can you please get someone else who works there who knows what they are doing to respond to this post. You keep redirecting us to your FAQ, without the understanding that it does not contain the solution. And if your grand solution is "call technical support", then why are you even comenting on this thread? You should get someone who knows the problem and them respond instead of wasting all our time.

Same problem. I'm in the process now, disc 2 after 74% complete, says Copying Files failed. HP Pavilion. Support says unavailable.
