Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Your PC comes in two different models: one with Win10 preinstalled and the other with Win8.1 preinstalled.

IF yours came with Win10, then the way you restore the OS is by pressing F11 when you reboot the PC, and when the HP Recovery Manager starts, you select the option to restore to factory settings.

If that does not work, then you should be able to order HP Recovery Media from this link:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143

Good Luck

I would start with testing the hard drive since you got that error message-before even trying to install Windows 10. If I understand correctly?

Immediately after powering on start tapping th Esc key. This should bring up a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 and run the tests.
