backspace key doesn't work

HP Recommended

Hi everyone, I have a compaq nx7300 notebook, last month I have a strange keyboard problem with it. When hit particular 4 keys (I don't remember which one) they pressed double and different characters. And then solve the problem with made a system restore.

And than last week "backspace" key started not to work without a reason. Just one key and there's no any problems with any other keys. I have no idea what can I do about it. I made a system restore but didn't work. Could anyone help me? Is anyone got any idea why ?

Thank you.

Is the backspace key not working anywhere or only in specific applications...Also I would you to try using this key in Notepad too and check the working of the key.

I am an HP employee.

Backspace is not working in Explorer, Firefox, windows document names, Word but I will try in Notepad and write here.

What can you say about the previous problem with keys that I solved with system restore, I am curious about it why. For example "g" key was press "hg", "n" key was press "nv" it was strange.

Thank you for your concern.

Keyboards are funny like that, did you spill anything on it?

If it's an old laptop you may have luck in finding a cheap replacement keyboard.  Replacements are pretty easy to install, just a few screws and a ribbon cable or two.

Otherwise you could start using the Delete key as a work-around.

The backspace key on my Compaq Presario has also stopped working.

I have attached another keyboard and the backspace does not work on that either.

Is this any help in working out how to fix this? Anyone - please can you help?
