Product: HP 15 Notebook
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Unable to find a device I can use to do a new backup on HP 15 Windows 7 Home Premium. It has a 512 GB SCSI internal drive. I installed a new Sata 512 GB on USB and it is not recognized. I installed a new Fat32 Flash on USB and was able to reformat to NTSF, but Win 7 says not a valid backup device. My DVD is an optical drive and the DVD and CD media are also not recognized, but I don’t want to do that anyway.  Do I need a SCSI drive to do a backup or System Restore?

How do you know it is SCSI internal drive ? Where do you put new Sata 512 GB on USB ?

 

Have you tried Portable USB external HDD ?

I have several external USB drives I used for backups. The most recent is full. Some are encrypted and I was not able to pick and choose files or share to other PCs. So, I was able to click drag files and file folders in the past from my XP, for instance, to either SCSI or SATA drives installed in a USB case. I now want to be able to share files with other PCs, including 7 professional, Wiin 10, and Linux and need a backup that is not encrypted or for just one machine. Do I need a backup drive the same size as my 512 GB internal drive, or does it just have to be large enough for my 120 GB of data? I ask because I wondered if that was the issue with the 168 GB flash drive.
