dv6000 upgrade to 4Gb of memory?

Im glad this old thread has helped you.  I can't remember the bios version installed, Im sure it was the last one back on that date. I always used 667Mhz modules.  Try to buy modules with the same frequency as the original module so there are no compatibility risks. 

I still think that a Server OS could be able to use almost the full 4GB of ram, but I never tested that theory. 

Unfortunatley, the laptop was stolen almost a year ago and I no loger have it with me. I currently own a Dell Vostro that feels and looks terrible compared to my beloved dv6000. I Hope I can buy a new HP sooner.

I have a dv6000 and a DV9000 both AMD based. Win7x64. These are fairly stout laptops. The only issues I have had have been the typical Nvidia chip needed to be reflowed. Anyway, they both will take two 2gig sticks, of which only 3 is available to the OS. with 256 of that being taken for the Go6150.

These laptops both benefit GREATLY by putting in a quality 4gig thumb drive and dedicating it to readyboost. This made a big big differance for me. The dv9000 I use a 32gb Ultra SD card in with 4gb dedicated to readyboost. The dv6000 will noy use that same card oddly, saying it does not meet the requirements. The dv6000 does use a 4gb HP thumb drive for readyboost though.  Using the readyboost on these machines works very well for me.

You're right that utilizing Ready Boost can help greatly in situations in which you don't have much RAM available.  I just wanted to go ahead and link to a Microsoft article about the feature.  Here is a link.
