Based on the HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC Product Specifications, this model shipped with Windows 8 (64-bit). I assume you upgraded to Windows 10 when it came out. How did the new replacement hard drive get an OS on it??? New hard drives do not come with an OS and it would have required you to use either your HP Recovery Media (Windows 😎 or Microsoft installation media (Windows 10). Please provide us with more information so we can better help you with your issue.

i purchased a recovery disk for the original system and then windows 10 nagged me to upgrade again, so i thought it may be ok to do so...but now i wish i had just kept the 8.1 because i am wondering if 10 is doing something weird. i am not entirely sure that the drive is actually dead because it keeps going into an auto-recovery then fails.
i may just give up and buy a macintosh.

Answer your question, i tried the HP recovery disks, and i have bootable win 7 and 8, but NOTHING is working. the new drive can't be accessed (it has no system) but each time i turn it on, with a bootable disk, i get the HP recovery failure dialog box that says recovery failed, choose a button: save, details, try again.
i can format my new drive, i.e. put a system on it with any disc. i looked at the bios, but say nothing out of the ordinary, so it must be something HP hardwired into the computer and i can't get it to load a system boot disk.
You must have seen this before, PLEASE PLEASE help me i desperately need my computer for work.
