The button works to mute the sound. However, the light doesn't light up any longer.
I tried to download a newer version of the IDT High Audio driver, but I get an error message indicating "this publisher has been blocked from running software on your machine". The file is sp55094.exe
I tried the step of turning off the laptop, removing the battery, pressing the on/off button for 30 seconds and then restating the laptop, but that didn't work.
I also tried the suggestion of changing the driver to the one on my laptop that is not associated with IDT and that didn't work either.

Thank you for posting. I understand that you are looking for the right audio driver since the mute key indicator is not working right. I want to help.
There is no updated driver released for Windows 10 for your model on HP website.
You can try removing the audio driver from Device Manager, and run the Scan for hardware change on the top of the window. Then update the driver by right click and install all the Windows updates.
Or you can try using the compatibility mode:
