Dear @beasthp

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

BIOS passwords:

Most business class notebooks (including yours Elitebook and Probook) have better security. They do not produce "halt codes".

You will have to contact HP Support for assistance on removing the password.

Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password. Assistance for such issues is free of charge for business class computers.

BIOS update:

Personally, I do not recommend you update the BIOS unless you experience some issues with your existing BIOS and you are sure that the new BIOS will fix it.

General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.

Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

If you do insist on updating the BIOS and if you really need to do it, please follow these instructions in the official article >>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629

Follow the method "when Windows does not start" >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629#AbT1

The particular file that you show a video of can be downloaded (product specific) from HP servers/web site >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any more questions. 🙂

@Likilesh

There is no such thing as Master password for these models of computers - they do not produce error code/halt code.

Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Or download these files.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0

Insert clean USB flash drive.

Then run USB Image tool.

Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE.

After restore remove flash drive.

Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ”If HDD is installed remove before booting.”

At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   “Then hit enter”

Type HPBR   “Then hit enter”

First thing is to save your settings.

Select #3 re-program.

Press “S” to save system information.

Type HPBR and hit enter.

Select   “FIRST RUN”

Then select model.

After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT “SECOND RUN”
