The NAND is not RAM it is cache memory for the hard drive. A drive with 16 gigs of cache will be a little faster than one with 8 gigs but yes you can do the upgrade you propose.

generally yes. But if the budget will accommodate, what you really want is a pure SSD or solid state drive....about $123 for a 500 gig SSD on sale:

so your 100% sure the WD5000M22K will work in place of the WD5000M21K that came from the factory in my split x2?

I am not there to supervise the installation so I cannot be 100% sure of anything but there is absolutely no reason it will not. There is nothing physically mechanically or electronically incompatible about the one you want to buy.

also some of the new hard drives im looking at on ebay say "Item needs to be initialized first and then create partitions, only after which the Operating System can be installed to use the Hard Drive to its full capacity." whats that mean i have to put windows on it myself how do i do that? would i be better off buying a used tested one so i can just plug in and go? say i do buy a new one and have to do that could you explaine to me the steps after i get my hard drive installed to get my computer up and running?

Yeah the hybrid drives actually require a sotware app like a driver to work properly. I don't like them. I would either use a 7200 rpm straight old school mechanical hard drive or a solid state drive. If you get the hybrid drive follow the instructions to the letter is all I can say.
